Title: A Visit from Our Lady of Guadalupe
Characters:
- Narrator
- Sofia (a curious child)
- Grandpa (a wise storyteller)
Narrator: It was a sunny morning, and Sofia sat on the porch with her grandpa. She loved listening to his stories. Today, he had a special one to share.
Sofia: Grandpa, can you tell me a story about Our Lady of Guadalupe? I’ve heard about her but don’t know the whole story.
Grandpa: Oh, Sofia, that’s one of my favorite stories! It happened many, many years ago, in 1531, in a place called Tepeyac, near Mexico City. Would you like to hear it?
Sofia: Yes, please!
Grandpa: Well, there was a kind and humble man named Juan Diego. He lived in a little village nearby. One day, as he was walking to church, something amazing happened.
Sofia: What was it?
Grandpa: The sky lit up, and he heard the sweetest music. Then, a beautiful lady appeared on the hill. She was surrounded by light, and her clothes sparkled like the stars.
Sofia: Was it Our Lady?
Grandpa: Yes, it was! She told Juan Diego that she was the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. She asked him to go to the bishop and tell him to build a church on that hill so she could show her love and help to all people.
Sofia: Did Juan Diego go to the bishop?
Grandpa: Oh, he did, but the bishop didn’t believe him at first. He thought, “Why would Mary appear to a simple man like Juan Diego?”
Sofia: That’s not very nice.
Grandpa: True, but Juan Diego didn’t give up. When he told Our Lady, she smiled and asked him to come back the next day for a special sign to show the bishop.
Sofia: What was the sign?
Grandpa: Early the next morning, Juan Diego met Our Lady again. She told him to pick roses from the hill, even though it was winter and roses shouldn’t have been growing.
Sofia: Winter roses? That sounds magical!
Grandpa: Exactly! Juan Diego gathered the roses in his tilma, a kind of cloak. When he brought them to the bishop and opened the tilma, something incredible happened.
Sofia: What? Tell me!
Grandpa: The roses fell to the ground, and on the tilma was a beautiful image of Our Lady, just as Juan Diego had described her.
Sofia: Wow! Did the bishop believe him then?
Grandpa: Oh, yes! The bishop was amazed. He built the church just as Our Lady asked. And guess what? The tilma with her image is still there today, over 490 years later, in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe!
Sofia: That’s so cool! Why is she so important?
Grandpa: Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds us that God loves everyone, no matter who they are. She appeared to a humble man to show that even the smallest voices can carry big messages.
Sofia: I like that story, Grandpa. It makes me feel special, like I can do something important too.
Grandpa: You absolutely can, Sofia. Just like Juan Diego, you can share kindness and love wherever you go.
Narrator: Sofia smiled, imagining herself as brave and kind as Juan Diego. The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe filled her heart with hope and inspiration.
The End.
