Is Purgatory in the Bible? - Part VI
Catholic beliefs that Protestants do not accept
The simple answer is No! However, we are weak human beings and the resolutions we make in the morning are broken even before we have breakfast. Therefore we need to make a plan of action and then implement it, that’s if Purgatory is a place you don’t wish to visit. The best part is that God doesn’t will for us to suffer Purgatory, so may His will be done! To make that happen, we have to appease the justice of God and the good news is that God has given us the means to make attornments for our sins and thus appease His just anger.
How can we avoid Purgatory? - Sacramentals and other Heavenly aid
Be in a state of grace (free from mortal sin)
Be free from attachment to venial sin.
Go to confession every week or every 15 days.
Receive Holy Communion frequently
Pray the Holy Rosary on the day you receive Holy Communion, and everyday of your life.
Say a prayer for the intentions of the Pope (an Our Father and a Hail Mary) to gain a plenary indulgence.
Apply your indulgences to the forgotten souls in Purgatory, they will in turn pray for you, remember there are priests, nuns, bishops, popes, who people don’t remember to pray for, and they are in Purgatory.
Pray five decades of the Holy Rosary in a church or family group, or religious Community, for a plenary indulgence.
Wear the brown Scapular with devotion.
Pray, daily, Seven Hail Mary’s in honor of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady.
Make the First Friday and First Saturday novenas in reparation for the sins committed against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Practice Mental Prayer or Meditation for 15 to 30 minutes everyday, it will help you grow spiritually and help you avoid venial sin.
Get the Raccolta, it contains a huge collection of indulgenced prayers that you can use of to make reparations.
Make use of your time here on earth, to avoid spending time in Purgatory. Trust in the mercy of God and aim to grow in holiness, Purgatory will automatically be the least of your worries, offending God will be your biggest worry.
So, that’s it, there’s more I could write about avoiding Purgatory, but the simplest thing to do is to grow in holiness.
In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin.
[Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) 7:40]
